Our Story

The Aslan Foundation, formally founded in 2019, was created in response to our family’s experience with mental illness; a journey which began in 2014.

It was as a high school freshman, that Andrew, the youngest in our family, began to verbalize and display disconcerting signs of mental illness. Being long-time residents of San Mateo County, we turned to the only resources we knew – the health care providers in our community.

We began to navigate our way through waters that were unchartered for our family in hopes of finding the support, education, and treatment that were so desperately needed. The lack of comprehensive care and coordination we found there was astounding, frustrating, and heart-breaking, as our loved one continued to struggle with the ebb and flow of his symptoms.

Our family experienced its darkest day when Andrew, at the age of 19, succumbed to his mental illness on Christmas Eve, 2017. We have been forever changed, and Andrew’s struggles have re-directed our own life’s purpose. Because of the years leading up to that horrific tragedy, and the grief filled days since, the desire to help other hurting individuals and their families has become our passion.

The Aslan Foundation exists to lovingly honor the life of Andrew Q. Peschard, who is forever in our hearts. While we will never know what his future could have been, we do know that he was a courageous and compassionate soul whose legacy would have undoubtedly included helping others. And so, for Andrew, we live out that legacy by offering help for today, light for tomorrow & hope for a future to those impacted by mental illness.
